It was lunchtime and I had a craving for spicy rice cake skewers. I looked up the closest Korean resto and found this quaint location near Concordia University.
The atmosphere of the restaurant was cozy with the warm wood tones, vibrant music and a super clean setting. The popularity of the establishment was noticed by the worn floors.
I ordered three dishes š½
The rice cake skewers were slightly sweet with a progressive spice level. They had a nice chew factor. I would of prefered the exterior to be slightly crispier to have textural contrast in terms of mouthfeel.
The beef bulgogi was rich, so flavorful and tasty š¤© A few ingredients included mushroom, carrots, onion, sesame seeds and soy sauce.
The chicken combo consisted of three (3) flavors of chicken (original, soy sauce and sweet & spicy), rice, Japchae (glass noodles prepared in a Korean traditional method), two (2) fried dumplings, coleslaw and a soda of choice.
The dumplings seemed to be vegetarian with a very soft interior and a flaky wrapper. The slaw was super fresh with minimal dressing. It was a nice bite complimenting the bold flavors of the meal. The glass noodles were bouncy and the taste of Japchae reminded me of a Philipino dish named pansit. Finally, the chicken skin was very crunchy, which I adored. The cook of the protein was alright. If there was a possibility of having extra sauce on the side for the chicken, I would highly advise this šø
The heat caught up to me towards the end š„
I needed something sweet and there was a Dairy Queen conviniently located next to the Guy-Concordia metro station. A vanilla ice cream cone enrobed in milk chocolate was the perfect way to end the course.
The contrast of the spicy flavors from COQCOR and the coldness of the ice cream was a well rounded experience.
It became chilly as the day progressed. I was very satisfied with this experience.
